Emotional resilience for your learners

Do your pupils have the ability to deal with setbacks, failures and challenges?

This programme is suitable for a maximum of 12 delegates.

Overview

Emotional resilience relates to emotional awareness, perseverance, a sense of control of own life, optimism and perspective. These are all traits vital to pupils' ability to succeed in their programmes.

Work in the field of emotional resilience has shown that, with the right training, pupils can adapt their coping strategies, employ new ways to handle stress and therefore deal with the trials of studying, and other parts of their life too. (Emotional Resilience Toolkit, Dept of Health 2008)

The problem:

Tomorrow's learners need to be resilient enough to deal with the challenges they will face when moving onto their next steps, either in education or in the world of work. Schools know they need to ensure pupils are challenged to reach their potential. Teachers often worry though about pushing too hard.

They sometimes believe that pupils don't seem to have the emotional resilience to manage possible setbacks. They often work hard on the technical aspects of teaching and learning, and then find the pupils have great difficulty coping with the challenges. As a result, not all your learners are meeting their potential.

The solution:

This one day course enables staff to show their pupils ways towards emotional awareness and resilience, use techniques to manage stress and deal with difficult challenges, and develop the confidence to make mistakes. This allows teachers to have confidence in setting high expectations for pupils as they know they will be much more well equipped to deal with challenges.
